Elaborate beadwork is found in many traditions in Africa - too many to
fully explore. Some beads came through early trade while others were created
by Africans.
Beadwork is often found only on prestige items due to it's costly labour
intensive demands. Therefore we can say that we are proudly absolutelyafrica.
absolutelyafrica was started in Kwa-Zulu Natal in 2003, supplying the South African curio shops and game lodges. When demand increased, a new range was launched to cater for the tourists visiting South Africa.
Our bags are exclusive to absolutelyafrica with authentic Zulu beads on them.
The range is added to from time to time. There is a vast array of colours with
jewellery coming in many styles and patterns - all carefully beaded by the
rural Zulu people of Kwa-Zulu Natal, South Africa.
In order to produce quality beadwork, a great deal of experience is needed and
is as important as good eyesight. Beading is a time consuming process as each
bead has to be counted in order to achieve the required pattern and style. Most
of the beaders do not have electricity in their homes and are reliant on natural
light when beading.
The colour combinations, patterns and ideas are fascinating and vibrant.
